The Association of Occupational Health Nurses of Newfoundland Labrador (AOHNNL) believes that a person is part of society consisting of family, peer group and community. In this context, the work place is an integral component of life and to self-concept and well-being. Therefore, health promotion in the work setting should include all aspects of accident and disease prevention; maintenance of good health; monitoring of the health of individuals and their environment.
The AOHNNL also believes that Registered Nurses have the educational background to establish and maintain a health care program in any work setting. The Occupational Health Nurse functions as an independent practioner, provider of care, consultant, teacher and researcher. The nurse must maintain contact and liason with community agencies, not only for the worker and their family, but also for the community as a whole.
