ASSOCIATION OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSES OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
Amended June 1991

NAME:
The name of the association (herein called the Association) is the Association of Occupational Health Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Association is a Special Interest Group of the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland.

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITEEE COMPOSITION
The Executive Committee shall be composed of the officers who shall be as follows:

The Executive Committee shall be the governing body of the Association. The officers shall be elected in accordance with the by-laws.

FUNCTION OF HTE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee shall conduct the business of the Association between annual meetings.

BY-LAWS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSES
OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

ARTICLE 1 OBJECTIVES

SECTION 1 Dissemination of information to all members by media, literature, and correspondence.

SECTION 2 Where sufficient numbers exist, to meet for workshops or seminars, etc. Where meetings may be difficult due to distance or funding, regional workshops should be encouraged and/or teleconference, provincially.

a) The annual meeting to take place at a time and place to coincide with the ARNN annual general meetings.
b) At the annual meeting of the Association, an auditor shall be appointed for the purpose of auditing and verifying the books and accounts of the Association.

ARTICLE 2 MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1 Regular members of this Association will have all rights and privileges of the organization including the right to vote and hold office.

SECTION 2 Associate members have all rights and privileges of the organization except the right to vote and hold office.

SECTION 3
a) Honorary membership shall be for life and may be conferred upon a person who has rendered distinguished or valuable assistance to the Nursing Profession in general, or the Association, in particular. Such membership may be conferred at any general or annual meeting of the Association, the name having been approved by the Executive Committee.
b) Honorary members who are nurses have the same rights and privileges as non-practising members.
c) Honorary members are not required to pay fees so long as they are not practising nursing.

 

ARTICLE 3 FEES
SECTION 1 The membership fee, and payment thereof, for regular and associate members shall be fixed by the Executive Committee and ratified by the membership at the annual meeting.

All officers shall enter into their official duties after the annual meeting. The term of office shall be for two years.

 

ARTICLE 5 MEETINGS

SECTION 1 There shall be an annual meeting of the Association, the date to coincide with the ARNN Annual Meeting, when held in St. John’s. On alternate years, the annual meeting will be held by teleconference.

SECTION 2 Executive meetings shall be held at least four times a year.

ARTICLE 7 NOMINATING COMMITTEE

SECTION 1 The Nominating Committee shall be responsible for:
Preparing a ballot bearing the names of the nominees for each office.

SECTION 2 Receiving nominations for the offices which have been signed by two (2) members of the Association:

SECTION 3 Acting as scrutineers to count the ballots for the election of officers at the annual meeting.

 

ARTICLE 8 ELECTIONS


SECTION 1 The Executive Nominating Committee Chairperson shall be elected every two years at the annual meeting.

SECTION 2 Elections shall be held by secret ballot and shall require a majority vote when there is more than one (1) candidate running for an office.

 

ARTICLE 9 AMENDMENTS


SECTION 1 Amendments to these by-laws shall be proposed to the Executive Committee one (1) month before the annual meeting. The membership shall be notified of such proposals two (2) weeks before the annual meeting.

SECTION 2 No amendments shall be effective unless voted by a majority at the annual meeting.
